Disabled Living Standards Interim Statement
As the Chancellor announced that he looked to finish the “fight against inflation” in the Spring Budget, we warn against policy complacency, echoing concerns raised in our Living Standards Report from November 2023.
Wholesale energy costs remain significantly elevated today, nearly double 2021 levels, whilst food costs persist at a third higher over the same period, exacerbating the ongoing structural challenges faced by disabled households.
The Spring Budget also fails to adequately address the employment challenges facing disabled people, and those with long-term health conditions. Rather than simply reiterate the objectives previously announced in the Autumn Budget, there is a pressing need for targeted efforts to invest in the human and social capital of disabled people, and people with long-term health conditions."
