We are delighted to see Mayor Andy Burnham announce the trial this month of extending the Disabled Person’s Freedom Pass outside of the current 9.30am – 5pm.

Accessible Transport is a major barrier for disabled people. If done right, it has the opportunity to impact someone’s wellbeing, reduce loneliness and increase employment opportunities.

In 2022, we wrote to three Metro Mayors, including Andy Burnham, to ask for time limitations to be removed on the Disabled Person’s Freedom Pass. We met with officials from Transport for Greater Manchester shortly afterwards to discuss this policy.

We are delighted that this is now being trialled. We look forward to seeing progress, and hope that it becomes a permanent fixture, that other parts of the country can learn from.
