Disability Policy Centre Joins Key Roundtable on Financial Barriers for Women in Politics

We were proud to represent the Disabled Women in Politics Network at a roundtable event, ‘Unravelling (Financial) Barriers Faced by Women in Politics’, held at Portcullis House in Parliament last October.

Organised by Professor Hilde Coffe and Kaitlin Senk from the University of Bath, the discussion brought together women candidates, academics and other organisations to tackle the financial challenges women face in entering and thriving in political life.

The event began with an engaging presentation by Professor Coffe and Kaitlin Senk, exploring research into how campaign finance impacts women’s political representation, highlighting systemic financial obstacles that disproportionately affect women.

We also heard from Katie from Elect Her, who outlined how personal financial pressures influence women’s ability to campaign effectively and sparked a discussion on breaking down barriers to secure more inclusive pathways into political life.

Taking part in this roundtable reinforces our commitment to championing the voices of disabled women in politics and we look forward to continuing our work to create a more inclusive political system for all.
