Be a Councillor – Championing Diverse Local Leadership
Be a Councillor is a campaign focused on encouraging more disabled people to stand for local election and take up leadership roles within their communities. The campaign recognises the importance of diverse, inclusive representation in local government and aims to ensure disabled voices are not just heard, but actively shaping decisions at a local level.
The campaign is a collaborative effort, working in partnership with organisations that are committed to improving political representation across all communities. These include 50:50 Parliament, Elect Her, Operation Black Vote, The Politics Project, Migrant Democracy Project, and the Local Government Association (LGA).
Together, these organisations bring expertise in political engagement, equality, and community empowerment supporting a campaign that challenges barriers, provides resources, and opens up pathways for disabled people to get involved in local democracy.
Whether someone is just starting to think about local politics or ready to stand for election, Be a Councillor is about making that journey possible.
